Milan's climate is harder on outdoor materials than most catalogues admit. We get freezing nights in January, 35 °C afternoons in July, hailstorms in spring, and persistent humidity year-round. Moraldenom maintains a curated materials library at Via Tortona 31 — every sample has been tested or verified for exterior use in northern Italy. Below is an overview of what we specify and why.

Core material categories

Porcelain stoneware decking

Frost-proof, non-slip (R11 minimum), and available in wood-effect finishes. Installed on adjustable pedestals over existing concrete — no drilling into waterproof membranes. Ideal for terraces with drainage challenges.

Typical cost: €85–€145 / m² installed

Powder-coated aluminium

Frames for furniture, planters, and pergolas. Qualicoat-certified finishes resist UV fading and salt spray. Lighter than steel, rust-free, and recyclable. Our default for structural outdoor elements.

Furniture frames: €420–€2,800 per piece

Marine-grade outdoor textiles

Sunbrella, Tempotest, and equivalent fabrics with solution-dyed acrylic fibres. Water repellent, mould resistant, and rated for 40+ wash cycles. We specify removable covers for winter storage.

Cushion sets: €180–€650

Treated hardwood (FSC)

Teak and iroko for clients who accept annual oiling. We are honest about maintenance — untreated teak greys within one season. Used selectively for table tops and accent details.

Table tops: €340–€890

Fibre-reinforced planters

Lightweight composite planters with double-wall insulation protect roots from freeze. Integrated drainage and optional drip lines. Weight calculated for load limits before specification.

€95–€380 per planter

Stainless steel (A316)

Railing attachments, fasteners, and kitchen modules. A316 grade resists urban pollution and cleaning chemicals. Never A304 outdoors — it stains within two years in Milan air.

Hardware: €45–€320 per assembly
